Devin Butler caught 49 passes for 467 yards at SU.

Syracuse junior wide receiver Devin Butler is transferring, according to Watch Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.

Butler, who was expected to be a top target for Syracuse this season, started the first five games of the season until missing the Week 6 game at Pittsburgh for a violation of team rules. From that point on, freshman Taj Harris started in Butler’s place.

In the final week of the regular season against Boston College, Butler played defensive back, doing the same in the Camping World Bowl too. Butler also served as a gunner on special teams. He finished 2018 with 14 catches for 126 yards and no touchdowns.

In his three-year career at SU, Butler played in 29 games, logging 49 catches for 467 yards and one touchdown.

SU still returns Harris, rising junior Nykeim Johnson and rising senior Sean Riley at receiver, all consistent contributors in 2018. Trishton Jackson, a rising redshirt senior transfer from Michigan State, who caught a touchdown in his debut against West Virginia, is expected to be featured heavily. Sharod Johnson and Cameron Jordan, both rising redshirt sophomores, and rising sophomore Ed Hendrix will also push for touches.
