Held to just eight goals on 23 shots and losing the draw control margin by five, No. 8 Syracuse (13-5, 5-2 Atlantic Coast) was downed by Louisville (11-6, 3-4), 9-8, Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, marking the final regular season game for SU. The Orange failed to hold a lead all game.

On the heels of Tuesday’s home finale against No. 11 Cornell, where Morgan Widner led the Orange with four turnovers, the freshman struggled again. Widner posted just two draw controls in the loss, and also had a turnover.

Natalie Wallon notched three goals for the Orange in the loss, and Riley Donahue added two, but only three others in the SU contingent found their way into the scoring column.

The Cardinals were led by Meghan Siverson, who netted three goals and two assists in the win, also winning two draw controls and one ground ball.

Asa Goldstock made eight saves for the Orange, boasting a save percentage of 47.1 percent, but she was outdone by Louisville goalie Brittany Read, who saved nine Orange shots for a percentage of 52.9.

The Orange pulled within one goal with 1:31 remaining after Wallon’s third goal of the game, but failed to complete the comeback after a turnover followed by a yellow card, both on behalf of attack Devon Parker, and eventually lost to the Cardinals, 9-8.

Despite Saturday’s loss, SU finishes the regular season with only two conference losses. It’s next matchup will be on Thursday in the ACC tournament against Virginia Tech.
