Syracuse assistant coach Carter Lincoln has left the program, taking over as Clarkson University’s head coach, the program announced on social media Thursday. Lincoln previously spent four seasons as the head coach at Clarkson before coming to SU as an assistant in 2023 but now returns to his previous job.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the Clarkson Men’s Soccer team and the Clarkson University community,” Lincoln said in a statement released by Clarkson. “I am excited to build upon the milestones accomplished in my previous tenure, along with those achieved by Coach Lima.”

During his first tenure at Clarkson from 2018-22, Lincoln led it to a 34-24-11 record. He helped rebuild the program from the ground up. The Golden Knights hadn’t had a winning season in 16 years prior to Lincoln taking over. He led them to two winning records during his time, as well as the team’s first national ranking in two decades.

Lincoln spent his playing career at Southern New Hampshire before transferring to Vermont, where he played for three seasons. He later became an assistant with the Catamounts before getting a job as an assistant with Clarkson. Lincoln held that job for two seasons before becoming the head coach.

After a successful tenure, he departed for Syracuse following its 2022 National Championship win. During his time at SU, he helped the Orange go 16-12-10 and make the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
