Syracuse University has launched its new OrangeNow mobile application, a platform that consolidates several SU student experience tools, according to a Wednesday SU News release.

SU community members can use a variety of student resources in the app, including the student activities calendar, an on-campus bus and trolley tracker, the MySlice service portal and a dining hub, which compiles information surrounding the university eateries. Student users can also pair OrangeNow with Blackboard, SU’s learning management system.

Jeff Stoecker, the university’s senior vice president and chief communications officer, said the app aims to provide a “centralized digital location” where students can access campus resources. According to Wednesday’s release, Stoecker worked with SU’s first Chief Digital Officer Jeff Rubin to oversee the creation of OrangeNow.

“We’ve heard from students that they want the functionality and portability of a mobile app dedicated to the many facets of life at Syracuse University,” Stoecker said in Wednesday’s release. “We truly hope users find it valuable and that it helps students navigate a thriving life on campus with ease.”

The app’s release coincides with SU’s ongoing digitization efforts, which are outlined in the university’s Campus Framework. The framework includes goals to unify “the physical environment with the virtual environment,” improve digital accessibility and introduce virtual wayfinding strategies, according to the plan’s executive summary.

Along with its in-app features, OrangeNow also includes a collection of links divided into three subcategories: academics, student life and additional resources. Rubin said SU plans to introduce additional features to the app, collecting ideas from a standing OrangeNow suggestion form.

“As with most digital platforms, OrangeNow was designed to adapt and evolve dynamically, ensuring we meet the needs of our users,” Rubin said in the release.

SU also hopes to expand the app to accommodate non-student users, such as university faculty and staff, Wednesday’s release states.

The OrangeNow app is available to download in the App Store and Google Play, according to the release.
