Syracuse University’s Board of Trustees has extended Chancellor Kent Syverud’s contract through 2024, the university announced Thursday. The unanimous decision from the board came after a wide-ranging review process, according to an SU News release.

The review included SU administrators, alumni, trustees, deans, faculty, staff and students, per the release. The University Senate also conducted its own review, which included a survey of senators and affiliates.

From March through October 2017, stakeholders provided separate feedback to both the board and USen about SU’s performance under Syverud’s leadership. Trustees considered the university’s achievements in the last four years, including its institutional priorities and the board’s interactions with Syverud, per the release. The board also reviewed Syverud’s capability and character.

The Board of Trustees initially appointed Syverud in September 2013, and he began his appointment as chancellor the following January.

Syverud is SU’s 12th chancellor and an upstate New York native. As chancellor, he’s tasked with fostering communication between the board and faculty and students, according to the university’s faculty manual. He’s also responsible for general student welfare and student discipline.

Syverud’s base salary for 2016 was just under $730,000.
