Q&A with rapper Game

Los Angeles-based rapper Game brought his act to Syracuse University as part of the EA Sports and The Game College Tour. The Daily Orange chatted with him about collaborating with Dr. Dre (his lips are sealed), working with a star-studded list of guests on his new album and spending a day in Syracuse.

The Daily Orange: How did you like being in Syracuse?

Game: It was great, I love the school. I actually walked around the campus for most of the day with my hood up, so no one would recognize me and I could just enjoy myself. It’s really pretty, like someone carved it like a sculpture.

Did the show live up to your expectations?

Yes. It was the last stop on the tour and everyone had a great energy, and that makes me have an even better time, too. It’s more fun when everyone’s in the mood to have a great time.

Do you like doing college shows?

They’re so much fun. College is all about focusing on your goals and studying to get further in life and get ahead, you know? But sometimes you just need to unwind and relax, and that’s what I tried to get everyone to do tonight.

What did you think about doing a free show?

I mean, you’re all college kids and money’s tight, and you all like free things, right? (Laughs) It goes hand in hand with doing a show at a school, and it was cool.

You’re working on Dr. Dre’s ‘Detox’ album. How is that recording going?

I’m not supposed to tell you anything about it. And you can write that down, I can’t tell you anything. Sorry. (Laughs)

You released a new album this summer. How was the reaction to it?

It’s one of the best albums I’ve ever put out. It did well and people really seem to like it. I got to work with a ton of cool people on it, like Snoop Dogg, Nelly Furtado, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. I did a song with Tyler, The Creator, and the dude’s crazy. He won a VMA and is just ridiculous. If Odd Future ever comes up here, definitely see them. They’re all crazy, but they know what they’re doing, and they do it right.

What have you been listening to lately?

The Beatles, man. I love them. It’s good, old-fashioned classic rock. That’s the kind of music that just makes you feel good.
